Fifth grade students at Trenton Middle School are reading “Little House on the Prairie” by Laura Ingalls Wilder and recently completed a placemat project. In the novel, Mrs. Wilder shares her experiences of living on the prairie and the encounters she had with the Native American culture. Students were assigned an informational text article with a topic or questions relating to the Native American culture. They spent time researching and then created a placemat with a picture. The Wild Onion Cafe has agreed to display the placemats through the month of November in recognition of Native American Heritage Month.
