Trenton Volleyballers Fall On Senior Night
The Trenton Lady Bulldogs volleyball team had a rough go Tuesday on Senior Night in Trenton. St. Joseph-LeBlond came to town and scored a 25-16, 25-11 victory, sending the Trenton seniors out with a loss in their final home game.
Trenton battled back-and-forth with the visitors for the first several points, but eventually LeBlond overwhelmed the Lady Bulldogs. LeBlond took the first set by nine points and then ran away with the second set, winning by 14 points.
Trenton was led by senior Bekah Wiggins, who had three kills and a block. Lakisha Hughs added three kills and Sarah Walker also had a block. Alex Ewald chipped in with four assists and nine digs and Lyric Nolan had the Lady Bulldogs’ only ace of the night. Following the match, seniors Wiggins, Courtney Weyer, Malinda Foster and Hayley Mathews were honored
With the loss, Trenton fell to 5-17 on the season. Trenton has one final match before districts begin. The Lady Bulldogs will travel to Savannah next Tuesday to face the Lady Savages, beginning at 5 p.m.
While the high school squad was in action at home, the Trenton Middle School volleyball team was closing out its season in Chillicothe. The middle schoolers didn’t have much more luck than the high school team, however, falling 25-20, 25-9 in the A game and 25-3, 25-7 in the B game.
“Even though we did not win our last game tonight, these girls have come a long way throughout the season,” TMS Coach Amanda Pickett said. “They are a great group of girls and really hard workers. I look forward to seeing each and every one of these players continue to improve, preparing for our season next year.”
