Lady Bulldogs Handed Loss By Putnam County
The Trenton Lady Bulldogs dropped their second game in a row on Monday night, falling 4-3 to Putnam County at home on Johnson Field in Trenton.
The Lady Bulldogs scored the game’s first run in the opening inning when Tosha Wilson scored on a single by Cassidy Cotton. Putnam would respond, however, plating two runs in the fourth and one in the fifth to take a 3-1 lead over the Lady Bulldogs. Trenton tied the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the fifth when Wilson led off with a single and was bunted over to second on a sacrifice by McKinley Hurley. Madi Trump brought in Wilson with a double and Makaila Capeder scored Trump with a single.
Two hits and a Trenton error gave Putnam County the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh and Trenton’s rally in the bottom of the frame was stopped short with the tying run on third base.
Mallory Hooyman took the loss in the circle, throwing all seven innings and allowing four runs on 11 hits while striking out four.
As a team, Trenton fell to 9-3 with the loss. The Lady Bulldogs won’t have to wait long to put the loss behind them as they travel to Lexington tonight to take on the Minutewomen. The first pitch is scheduled for 5 o’clock.
In junior varsity action, Trenton picked up a 12-2 win over Putnam County. Daryian Otto was the winning pitcher, throwing three shutout innings and allowing one hit while striking out five batters. Whitley Richman pitched one inning, allowing one run on two hits and striking out one.
Emily Lynch led the way at the plate, going 2-for-2 with two runs scored. Tenna Roberts was 1-for-2 with two runs scored. Jessi Westcott, Jaylen Neff and Ayri Ortiz each added a pair of runs and Abby Miller had an RBI.
