Trenton Falls To Savannah At Home
The Trenton Lady Bulldogs tennis team dropped its third-straight dual to open the season on Thursday, falling to Savannah 6-3.
Despite the third loss in a row to start the season, the score was the closest of the three losses, a hopeful sign that the inexperienced Trenton squad is beginning to figure out things.
Megan Derry got her first singles win of the year at number one, defeating Savannah’s top player, Erin Hirter, 8-6. Siara Bailey also picked up a singles win for the Lady Bulldogs, winning 8-4 at number four. Between the two victories, however, Alexis Fender fell 8-6 at number two and Alvynne Villacampa lost 8-3 at number four. Hannah Sowder and Hannah Brinser kept things close at five and six respectively, but Sowder lost by a 7-5 tiebreaker after being tied at 8-8 and Brinser fell to her opponent 8-6.
In doubles play, Derry and Fender lost 8-4 and Villacampa and Bailey fell 8-3 before Sowder and Brinser combined to score an 8-2 win to close the dual on a high note.
Junior varsity action saw Trenton continue to have a lot of success as the Lady Bulldogs’ JV won four of five matches. Ashley Allen and Tristan Dugan won 6-4, Hannah Robinson and Megan Ellis won 6-1, Jessica Harrison and Kellie Smith won 6-4 and Michelle Stewart and Hannah Farmer won with a 7-1 tiebreaker after being tied at 6-6. Makayla Gordon was also in action for the JV, losing the only JV singles match contested, 7-5.
“Our JV had another great night of tennis, but we have a lot we still need to focus on at the varsity level before heading into a very busy schedule next week,” Lady Bulldogs’ Head Coach Abby Gott said.
Trenton will return to the courts on Tuesday, playing host to St. Joseph LeBlond at home at the THS tennis courts. First serves are set for 4 p.m.
