Two area fires were investigated by rural departments on Tuesday, causing damage to a home and a tractor-trailer. The first fire occurred around 4 p.m. at 284 SW 8th St. Eric Lorenz of the Trenton Fire Department said a home, occupied by Amanda Lawson, was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived and the house was destroyed by the fire. No one was at home. The cause of the blaze was not known and firemen from both the Grundy County Rural Fire Protection District and Trenton Fire Department were on the scene for about two hours. The structure is owned by Wendell Guess. The second fire was reported just before midnight on Highway 65, just south of Spickard. A northbound tractor-trailer unit was found on fire when firemen arrived. The cause was undetermined and there was moderate damage to the unit. Firemen were able to disconnect the trailer from the truck. Members of the Spickard Rural F ire Protection District and Grundy County Rural Fire Protection District answered the alarm.
